Episode 441: Caroline Kist joins me to speak about her endearing book It’s That You’re Here about her brother Reinoud.

It’s That You’re Here is a meditation about siblings and collaboration. I am reminded of the many books that deal with family as a central topic, but specifically that deal with siblings when I look at the work and in memory, there are not that many. I think of Margot Wallard’s My Borether Guillaume and Sonia, and more recently The Ritsch Sisters work, but these books carry a different weight to them from Caroline and Renoud’s work.

Art the center of the work is the bond of two siblings working closely together, one captures the countenance of the other, while the other performs for the camera. It is a sweet engagement that transcends and asks us to navigate our bindings to family and they way in which we want to be seen in front of each other. It is a moving portrait of the family. Please Tune In and buy the book!
