Lucile Brizard is a French artist working in Ukraine
Episode 498: My French Homegirl Lucille Brizard, who I absolutely never saw becoming a war correspondent, speaks to me from Kyiv, where she is indeed now, a war correspondent in collaboration with United24, a state-run media outlet.

I first met Lucille and her equally great husband, Joshua Olley, through our Nearest Truth Workshops. Lucille is someone with unmatched intensity, but also happens to be one of the funnier people I’ve met. Her work in the context of her art practice is lucid, lyrical, and often beautiful, if haunting. That is in the context of the workshop that we worked on. In recent times, her personal work has been central to the idea of masculinity during war.

Embedded in Kyiv over the past years, she has written a beautiful elegy for many of Ukraine’s male populations, both in reflecting the youth and in its aging population of men. The work is sober, intense, and radiates all of the hallmarks of a serious body of work. I caught up with Lucille recently to hear about her recent conversion to war correspondent and how it all works. Please listen in. The conversation was funny at times, but also very informative about the war itself.
