Morten Andenæs is a Norwegian artist
Episode 430: One of my absolute treasures of recent weeks is the photobook SKYLDFOLK by Norwegian artist Morten Andenæs, whom Jon Gorospe from Norwegian Photography Now turned me onto.
This episode is sponsored by the Forbundet Frei Fotografer, the Norsk Fotografisk Fond, and Norwegian Photography Now. It will remain free. To say the book is anything less than an opus would be a discredit, so it is with this in mind that Morten and I were able to sit down and speak about his deceivingly complex work and were able to deviate to other topics that included writing about photography, Tom Sandberg and the implications that Morten’s images have in their surface reading, versus how they behave with the title of the work in mind. It was an illuminating experience.
On a personal note, SKYLDFOLK is a work of genius. If you’d like to track down a copy, just drop Morten a line. He’ll have a few copies available, and I think you should consider it. In the meantime, thanks to the Norwegian team for bringing this incredible artist to my attention!
