Mike Lundgren is an American artist
Episode 493: Mike Lundren is an American artist with a unique and spectral voice whose understanding of the primordial American landscape presents its subject matter as living and encoded. Though ecological themes are present in his work, what he suggests is something deeper, bordering on horror and the sublime.

Whereas the landscapes in his work seem unnatural in many respects, his powers of observation in recognizing and harnessing the murky geology of the earth’s surface have placed the work more in the context of potential spirituality than of simple nightmare fuel.

This is Mike’s second book with eminent UK publishers Stanley/Barker, and I love that his work, like Bill Henson’s, in an adjacent way, adorns their catalog. The chromophilia in both artists’ work breaks up the black and white work the publisher is known for, and that is no diss, I just love that this world/s exists in their output.
Mike is a great guy, and we get pretty deep into the weeds here about his work and how he shoots. I hope to produce a second episode soon. For now, check in and listen!!
