Mara Palena is an Italian artist

Episode 521: Mara Palena returns to speak with me about her new book, published by ArtPhilein Editions earlier this year

Mara’s work has recently evolved to include intricate conversations about the processes of memory, trauma, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a healing approach that uses therapy to reduce the attachment of significant traumatic memories in the brain through various stimuli. For her part, Mara has been working with sound and image, as well as immersive installations and AI, to bring the topics to life through visualization.

Last time we spoke, it was on a completely different topic: her previous body of work, Oikeiôsis, which collected nearly two decades of her early work, including commercial works, presented by Witty Books in a hazy and granular landscape that suggested memory, so this work creates an interesting throughline for that work. Please tune in to this fascinating conversation about Mara’s work.
