Episode 526: With apologies for the delay in publishing, I am happy to publish this conversation between myself and writer, curator, agent, and all-together great artist Gregory Eddi Jones in which we speak about the many hats that he wears in the world of photography, but placing most of the emphasis on his practice, which is phenomenally interesting.
We weave our discourse around his thoughts on technology and photography, while discussing several bodies of work, including his fantastic book Promise Land, published by Self Publish Be Happy. What strikes me as pertinent in our conversation is the broader discussion of the state of photography and the different roles we each play on its surface. We discuss the difficulties and successes of working in these positions and how it affects our working methodology.
Hearing about Gregory’s work, Promise Land, was incredibly inspiring. I love hearing artists speak about their process, and I think his work is very involved, though on the outside it looks somewhat non-photographic and asks the viewer to parse out the process of making it.
