Olivia Arthur is a British photographer and member of Magnum Photos
Episode 353: Olivia Arthur joined me for a long conversation about her work, tenancy at Magnum, and her interest in photobooks, amongst many other things.
I was aware of Olivia and her East London gallery and publishing Fish Bar since living there, having spent time there at openings. I do not remember speaking to her or establishing much of a rapport before our discussion. The evenings I attended Fish Bar were usually jam-packed with the London photocogniscenti checking in for a perusal of work or the occasional book launch. I am very happy that I have had the opportunity to speak with Olivia about the many hats that she wears. From mother to an artist, publisher, gallerist, and erstwhile regent of Magnum Photos, Olivia’s involvement with photography runs deep, and her dedication is sincere. Aside from her contributions to the broader field, Olivia’s projects are exemplary. We spent time reviewing several of her works and books during the podcast. Her experiences and how she thinks about photography, from its ethics to its flaws, made the conversation sober and deep. I hope you will tune in.
