Sebastián Bruno is an Argentinian photographer based in France

Episode 431: Sebastián Bruno is an Argentinian artist based in France, where he has relocated from Britain. He has written several books that interrogate and push the boundaries of the documentary tradition.

Ta-Ra

Catching up with Sebastián, whose book Ta-Ra continues to inspire, was a delight. He was kind enough to send me The Dynamic, a hilarious investigation of a local newspaper for which he was employed. The background of the characters involved and the general atmosphere of the office for the Dynamic add to the absurd background of running a local newspaper on a small level. It is a fantastic follow-up to our discussion about Ta-Ra, which is similarly a “documentary”project about the working class communities of Wales. With this, it is important to suggest that the photographs feel less like straight documentary work than they do subjective studies of place in the manner of Michael Schmidt, whom we spoke about during the episode.

The Dynamic

Further conversation entails Sebastián’s background, both photograpically and his history of making his way to Britain. We delved into several bodies of work, which was deeply satisfying. Please tune in!
