Sara Aue Sobol is an Italian artist

Episode 443: Sara Aue Sobol is an Italian artist based in Denmark. Her recent book, Tell My Love Now, was published by TIS Books.

Our discussion focused on Sara’s new book, which, at its core, is a tender study of love, family, and the difficulties of running up against mental instability and finding a way to mete out a working relationship with care, creativity, and courage. Her new book is a colorful investigation of her life with her partner Jacob, but also their friends and family, and was produced at a time when her husband faced a sincere bout of depression. It is a reflection on the dynamism of a loving couple to persevere and to find strength under the crippling effects of mental duress. It also showcases Sara’s incredible gift, often demarcated by her saturated and close photographs.

Sara and I spoke about the making of the book and her journey to get to Denmark from a candid series of travels in her youth before coming to Denmark and, more sincerely, to the medium of photography. The discussion had hilarious moments, and I appreciated Sara and her work. When I received the book, it had an immediate effect on me. I found it joyful, but also intimate and precise, despite the presence of the worldly chaos of her life. It has my highest recommendation.
