Jan Staiger and Malte Uchtmann are German artists

Episode 449: Malte Uchtmann and Jan Staiger spoke to me about their exceptional book, The Perfect Crime: Concerning the Murder of Reality, published by Kult Books.

As a true crime fan, it was a fantastic moment to catch up with the duo about their work, which does include true crime as its subject matter but also looks at our desire to interact with it and suspend disbelief when it comes to the production of imagery surrounding its tropes, mainly through the processing of AI. There is an extended discussion about how the duo put the work together, and it begs questions about human belief and behavior.

The conversation was really quite a bit of fun and I enjoyed speaking to the duo about their partnership from its covid roots to the release of the book. Their anecdotal information about being on film sets and how the German public perceives true crime and AI was particularly fascinating. Without giving up too many clues, I encourage you to listen in.
