Lisa Donneson is an American artist

Episode 491: I finally get a moment to catch up with Lisa Donneson about her fantastic new book Irreversible Order, published by Art Paper Edition. It is a book I worked on with Lisa during our year-long photobook program this past year, and I am very proud to see it out into the world.

To sum up, the book itself is not super easy. However, I might suggest that Irreversible Order is about America, again, a performative photographic display, all playing out under the hint of history, trauma, and absurdity in both humor and over the last couple of decades. Lisa’s work is subtle. Her still-life photographs are subliminal, and the performative doubling of her self is metaphorical. Yet, it all plays out in a sequence of images that works from under the skin, subconsciously trapping the reader in her world, where things feel uncanny and, at times, eerie.

Our conversation covers all of this and more. Please pick this book up. It was one of my favorites to work on, and I believe Lisa’s vision is unique and her humor is infectious! Listen in!
