Hans Gremmen is a Dutch Designer and Publisher

Episode 501: It was a significant pleasure to catch up with designer Hans Gremmen of FW: Books regarding his new offerings, In-Between, which looks at the ephemera associated with his designing and publishing of over 400 books.

It is a milestone achievement, and though the book does touch on this, it is less about Hans’s practice than about the books and artists he has worked with. In true humble form, Hans has kept the focus on his output and relationships while demurring in favor of himself throughout the nearly 300-page catalog.

The second book he has published is The Incomplete Deck, which examines the history of playing cards through his own collection of cards he has found on the street in places as far apart as the Netherlands, Las Vegas, London, and Venice, among others. The book suggests serendipity and meditates on how chance follows us through observation. It was an absolute pleasure to speak with Hans.
