Larry Towell is a Canadian photographer and member of Magnum
Episode 341: I had the extraordinary opportunity to speak with legendary photographer Larry Towell about the re-publishing of his amazing book The Mennonites, published by GOST this past year.
Larry is a member of Magnum and one of the finest photographers working between monochrome, music, and the remarkable community of the Mennonites. Our conversation was short due to a mix of schedules, sleep deprivation, etc. Still, we managed to pack quite a bit into the episode about the new book, which is a beautifully printed and respectful tome on the religious community, which Larry goes to pain in explaining his making of the work.

Fortunately, Larry was able to provide some extra audio of the Mennonites themselves singing and performing. It is almost haunting in places. In other places, Larry can be heard playing guitar and adding an extra layer to the story of the Mennonites while also exhibiting what a badass the photographer is. I am a huge fan of musicians who also do a bit of photography, so this was a huge bonus episode for me. Please listen in. There is nobody else like Larry out there, and this work is incredible.
