Marianne Bjørnmyr is a Norwegian artist and half of the directing team at NŌUA an artist space in Bodø, Norway

Episode 417: Marianne Bjørnmyr, a Norwegian artist, joins us from her hometown of Bodø, Norway, where she and her partner, Dan Mariner, run an artist space and residency called NŌUA. This episode is sponsored by the FFF Frei Forbundet Fotografer, the Norsk Fotografisk Fond, and Norwegian Photography Now. It is part of our year-long series of podcasts exploring the Norwegian art and photography scene.

This was an incredibly fascinating episode. Marianne is a phenomenal artist with an exciting practice that incorporates history, lost anthropology, photography, and computer rendering to create an immersive series of works that reflect on human culture and investigations of land, often remote and often with an incredible story attached. She also runs an excellent artist space in Bodø, Norway, with her partner Dan Mariner. The couple run a dynamic series of programs and are another in the ever-widening field of artists who, not simply settled on creative endeavors, also give back to the community significantly and look outside their practice to help others achieve their goals. This cannot be taken lightly.

Throughout the episode, Marianne and I spoke about her fascinating work, the life of Bodø, and how the NŌUA space fits into the cultural landscape of her hometown. The conversation regarding both was super interesting, and we spoke about everything from her time in London (which overlapped with my own) to her flight by the RAF to the Ascension Islands to investigate a diary that was found left there in the 18th Century by a solider named Leenert Hasenbosch who was left on the island as a punishment for sodomy. It was an incredible tale and one of the engaging subjects we discussed. Please Tune In!!!!!
