Julian Sander is a German-American gallerist

Episode 439: Julian Sander is a German-American art dealer based in Cologne whose great-grandfather is August Sander, the noted German artist whose work is as crucial now as it was during the first decades of the Twentieth Century when it was made.

I had the pleasure of meeting Julian some years ago when he was running a different gallery. I found him kind, knowledgeable, and refreshing in the world of dealing, which can sometimes be filled with difficult or arrogant people. Julian was friendly and a joy to speak with, as evidenced in our conversations.

Julian and I rekindled our conversation for this podcast recently. It was an incredibly honest, open, and engaging conversation. We spoke about his background growing up in America. August Sander and the recent NFT debate surrounding the August Sander NFT drop drummed up a lot of discussion about intellectual property and the difficulty of managing the legacy of multi-generational family artists.
