Jerry Hsu is a skateboarder and photographer
Episode 521: Jerry Hsu and I got some hang time to discuss his exceptional new book published by MACK. As declared at the beginning of the episode, I am only slightly aware of his skateboarding background, so we did not spend much time on that aspect of his life, but chose to spend the time speaking about his upbringing in Cali and his love of making photographs both with a film camera and, previously, with his phone.

His new book, How About Never, brings Hsu’s excellent work together in a volume that teems with energetic, chaotic images, in which the landscape of Los Angeles teases the frame with its complexity before receding into the background, giving way to something more personal and subjective. Speaking about his process, Jerry illuminated for me the work and the individual pictures that are intimate and profound.

It has been a while since I have logged an over-3-hour episode, and I guess that speaks to the camaraderie I felt with Jerry. Please tune in!
