Nancy Floyd is an American photographer

Ep. 254: Nancy Floyd is an American photographer.

Nancy and I sat down to speak about her recent book Weathering Time published by GOST, a brave investigation of self-portraiture made over decades. The portraits remind one somewhat of Grant Wood’s famous American Gothic painting in the sense that they are very frontal, American, and vernacular in spirit feeling something like a snapshot or an early Itinerant photographer’s efforts to document a town. It would also be worth mentioning that these environmental portraits are rooted by Nancy herself and the people in her life that surround her in her domestic environment/ Nancy remains the fixed component of the work.

In the episode, we speak about Nancy’s background from the Midwest and delve into Weathering Time, but also her formation as an artist and the work that would eventually become Weathering Time. We also spoke about her work She’s Got a Gun, a series of portraits of women learning about firearms. It was an intense discussion and I very much applaud Nancy for her work and the way in which she discusses it all. Please tune in!!
