Eduardo Giralt Brun & Pouria Khojastehpay are two artists who have published Sicario Warfare
Episode 268: Eduardo Giralt Brun & Pouria Khojastehpay are both artists working with found imagery and both make their own images.
Both are involved in Pouria’s company 550BC a stellar publishing company doing interesting photobook projects on the periphery of where photography intersects with politics, economy, and vernacular aesthetics. I am pretty late to the game with 550Bc, but I revere what the team is doing. It is completely fascinating and it gives me some hope that there are new ways to see photography and the photobook.
During the episode we spoke about the combined effort of each artist which eventuated into Sicario Warfare, a book made from phone and video images from deep inside the Sinaloa Cartel training camps. The pair acquired an SD card full of images from a source in a legendary trade that involved Sun Tzu books and some Emiliano Zapata t-shirts. The images were then taken from the film, edited for anonymity, and finally published in this book. The fact that the images started as footage and ended up as a photobook is quite interesting. Please tune into this. We discuss politics, ethics, and how to reveal the reality of the world through images. 550BC just published a new book this week. I would suggest keeping up with them if you want to get their books as when they sell, they are impossible to find for a fair price.
