Hannah Modigh is a Swedish artist
Episode 350: I finally got a chance to record with Hannah Modigh, an artist I have come to recently whose work has profoundly affected me.
I knew about Hannah’s work for some time, but until recently had been unable to track down copies of a few of her books that I wanted to start with, namely Hillbill Heroin, Honey, and Hurricane Season, both of which, with the help of Hannah, I have been able to track down alongside her other books, including her new book published by Fotohof entitled Archive of longing. We began our discussion with a long talk about her background and her first books. For the most part, we stayed working between her book The Milky Way and Hillbilly Heroin, Honey. The reason for this is the nature of the images in Hannah’s work. Her work is sensitive and focuses on communities in her native Sweden and America, where Hillbilly Heroin, Honey was produced.
We decided to take our time with her biography to ensure that Hannah had the time to talk about the work and the people involved in her books. I will be releasing multiple episodes with Hannah, so we may talk at length about her projects to give due time to both the work and those involved. We will begin recording episode two in March 2023. For now, please tune into this episode with Hannah and me. I found it vastly rewarding and that the subjects we spoke about were handled with sensitivity and care.
