Alice Zoo is a British Photographer and Writer

Episode 362: It is always a pleasure to speak with another person who writes on photography. I always think this position, whether we think of it as criticism, academic, or lyrical, writing about the medium is crucial.

I first “met” Alice Zoo through a piece of writing about Robert Bergman, based on writing by Stanley Wolukau-Wanambwa, who defended Bergman’s images of American portraiture, which I found ethically irresponsible. Though Alice responded to my writing on her own Substack page, I feel that these differences of opinion, including hers are all valid, and I wanted to take a moment to speak with her about her writing and background as a photographer.

Intelligent and keen to support the medium through her writing, Alice was fantastic to speak with. We spoke about photography, her writing, and her language background. It was a great discussion, and I hope you can turn in for a discussion about Alice’s work
