Jonas Feige is a German artist and Alan Huck is an American artist
Episode 428: Jonas Feige and Alan Huck join me to discuss their recent collaboration, A Narrow Foothold. This project started over the past few years. The book was edited and designed by artist Cristian Ordóñez and published in a limited edition by an incredibly interesting publisher, Another Earth.
Throughout the conversation, we discussed the project and collaboration’s role in making a book like this. This strangely even collaboration makes it slightly tricky to tell whose images are whose, which is effective when viewing the project conceptually rather than authorship. Each artist is present, but the whole of the project subsumes each identity.
One of the reasons that I am drawn to the work is that it examines the nature of cities through their fragments and also through the final work of Walter Benjamin, whose work, The Arcades Project, had lain dormant after the war and his suicide. The work looks at the quality of a city, its machinations, and how it influences people and our human culture. It is a fascinating tome that inspires younger artists like Huck and Feige to consider the city and produce new work. Please tune in and listen!
