Courtney Allen is an American artist

Episode 447: Courtney Allen joins me to speak about her recent book Splendor, published by the fantastic crew at Deadbeat Club.

Splendor is an aggregate body of work that feels like an experience. Part of that is due to Allen’s ability to evoke beauty through the phenomenon of light, which holds everything together. There is a sense of wonder in the natural world, but also its counterpart, the encroachment of the artificial, unnatural sensation of the world, which contravenes the natural beauty of the landscape.

Photographed over a decade, the work highlights Allen’s sensitive eye for color, light, and a depth of subject matter, including interpersonal relationships. Our conversation went through Courtney’s journey and the making of the book. It was a fruitful conversation with many meandering asides who felt at home within the context of the work. Please Tune in.
