Michael Rathmayr is an Austrian artist
Episode 492: Michael Rathmayr, a dear friend and colleague with whom I have had the absolute joy of working on his new book, Remedy, published by Nearest Truth Editions and designed by Lee Tesche.

Having worked with Michael on this book for over two years in my capacity as an art director was a fantastic experience. The work has evolved tremendously over the last yearts and watching Michael grow into the photobook medium with his first book has been a pleasure. The book concerns the Amalienbad bathhouse in Vienna. What makes Amalienbad special is that it is part of Red Vienna, a socialist living and cultural policy that employed architects and municipal engineers to produce spaces and architecture that would be welcoming to workers, without diminishing the results based on class. A beautifully ornate Egyptian interior is welcoming and has been the focal point of the community for 100 years, this year in 2026. It is a place of gathering, community, and now, legacy.

Michael is a great photographer, and I really hope you get to listen in and also see the book, which is a banger. Won’t lie, we crushed it on the art direction and design. Dig In!
