Ahndraya Parlato is an American artist
Episode 511: Back for round two with artist Ahndraya Parlato to speak on her new book Time To Kill, recently published by MACK.

In our second conversation for Nearest Truth, we dig into the lineage of the artist’s books and how they relate and differ from her new book. We discuss the personal and family ties that bind her previous book to To Kill a Mockingbird. Ostensibly, there are themes of gazing, of death, of mid-life, but those are just the obvious ones.

Underneath the surface, there is a cool sub-narrative that reads as gothic, perhaps evocative of an eternal longing and of vanishing bodies, played out with great effect in the book’s design, sequencing, and text. The shifting narration and the compelling portraits ask us to read the work through several purposeful voices to great effect.

Without giving away the ghost, please listen in and hear Ahndraya explain it herself, and pick up a copy of the book.
