Nicolas Polli is a Swiss artist and designer.
Episode 75: Nicolas Polli is a Swiss artist, publisher and designer based in Lausanne. I have had the good fortune of working with Nicolas on several fronts and can verify that he is an exceptional talent an all around great guy. We have worked together on his book Ferox/The Forgotten Archives which was co-published by Skinnerboox and Polli’s own publishing house CIAO! Press. He has designed books for many artists and photographers.
I have also invited be before to collaborate with hims and Salvatore Vitale on their excellent YET Magazine, which the duo founded and now run with Elena Vaninetti amongst others. Yet Magazine itself is a invaluable resource for contemporary photography. It has given a platform for many young and aspiring voices in the field and is recognized as a leading voice and platform for younger artists.
In the episode, Nicolas and I speak about the many things that he does. We speak about his work with Yet, education and on designing photography books. In turn, there is a lot of information on process, design and thinking through photography in the printed form. We spoke had finished the episode a bit early and have added extra time to the episode by going over Nicolas’ excellent new book When Strawberries Will Grow On Trees, I will Kiss You. It is a book that explores isolation, lockdown and relationships. The photographs are superbly executed and the general atmosphere is enhanced by the writings throughout the book, which are in turn metaphorical investigations of Polli’s mental state during the beginning of 2020. It is an excellent offering and puts Nicolas’ artistic voice prominent over his equally capable design skills.
