Matt Stuart is a British photographer living in the Netherlands

Episode 286: Matt Stuart is a British street photographer currently living and working in the Netherlands.

Matt Stuart is an incredibly talented photographer, publisher, and photobook enthusiast whose books and bodies of work explore the notion of documentary and street photography. Throughout the episode, we spoke about Matt’s background within the genre of street photography and how that very classification is often an all-to-easy way to pin a type of photography that belittles the true value of the photographer and their efforts. We explore Matt’s books and his relatively recent move to the Netherlands. We view his work through his personal history, but also through his photobooks, a medium that is incredibly important to his own work and passion. Matt is a collector of photobooks whose reviews on Instagram are completely generous.

We explore Matt’s work, but also Plague Press his publishing imprint which recently co-published with Editorial RM,  the excellent Cristóbal Hara 1985-2020. Matt’s enthusiasm for the medium is hard to ignore and his deep insight into the medium should be championed at all costs. He is also incredibly generous with his time and his insight. Please tune-in!
