Jörg Brüggemann is a German artist

Episode 302: Jörg Brüggemann is a fine artist from Germany with several excellent publications under his belt. I was introduced to Jörg’s work through his book Metalheads, which caught my eye due to its direct relationship to my musical taste.

More recently, I was sent his incredible book Autobahn, published by HartmannBooks, a favorite publishing house of mine. I was utterly taken with the project and the book, which is oversized, blue, and lists German autobahn identification names on the cover. The cover itself is an excellent take on the solid history of German graphic design and utility. The book is oversized and shows the detail found in Jörg’s brilliant photographs of the German road system, a historic and most interesting topic.

We spoke about Jörg’s work, books, background, and position as an educator at Ostkreuz in Berlin, a well-respected and interesting school. The conversation was full of insight and detail regarding Jörg’s evident passion for the medium and this critical project on the German road system. Far from mundane, the work deals with notions of the idealized circulation of industry, culture, and economy. During the conversation, significant investigations of the road and things that lie adjacent to its utility. Jörg is a brilliant speaker. Please tune in!
