Episode 442: Lisa Kereszi joins me to speak about her recent book Mourning.
In the episode, we discuss the personal space of mourning and how the optics of mourning are reflected through a surrogate form of photography, in Lisa’s case, a trail camera that presides over her father’s grave. The outcome, in a book published by Minor Matters offers a way of checking in on the departed and what may seem like a quiet place becomes rife with activity, largely unseen by the public and certainly from the perspective of the trail camera itself. It creates a space to consider posthumous collaboration and evades the sentimentality and personal space of mourning, offering a more universal, if technical solution to being present to grieve, from a distance.
