Kovi Konwiecki is an American artist

Episode 249: Kovi Konowiecki is an American artist whose first photobook And In Its Place, Another has been published this year by Deadbeat Club Press.

Kovi has had a very unusual trip on his way to photography. An exceptional football player, Kovi’s passion and skill at the sport has sent him traveling at a very young age to engage in playing abroad. The dedication and focus that Kovi exhibited while playing the game instilled in him a working rigor that would eventually ground his pursuit of photography, which in short surprise, he also excels at.

In the episode, we speak about his background and how he came to produce the work that would be found in his new book. We spoke about Kovi’s background, but also the idea of place and society that pervades his work. We spoke about borders and the great American hinterland that exists between spaces. We dwelled on what it means to be part of an America that is often dislocated, out of joint, and bent of self-healing following a condition of self-destruction.

In no short surprise, Kovi had great insight into these matters, but also about producing work of quality and how ruminating on the matters outlined above have greatly informed his vision and work. And In Its Place, Another is an exceptional first monograph and I expect great things from Kovi going forward. Please tune in to this episode with a young artist full of talent at the beginning of his career.
