Hélène Binet is a Swiss/Italian artist living and working in London
Episode 509: Hélène Binet is a Swiss/Italian artist based in London, whose work has become associated with Architecture.

I am careful how I word that, as I do not want to suggest Hélène is a typical architectural photographer. That is not to throw shade on architectural photographers, but I see Hélène’s drive in service of her own vision, which happens to include architecture, form, and space. Her work remains her own, and this is a big factor in why architects find her vision suitable for their buildings. It is a collaborative gesture.

During our conversation, we discussed Hélène’s practice and how she came to be involved in architecture. We spoke a little bit about her work with renowned architects, including Peter Zumthor and Zaha Hadid. Hélène’s work is deep and meditative. Her observations on space present an often otherworldly use of light. We discussed how she works in such environments and her background in photography. Throughout, I am reminded of what an incredible world that architecture presents.

I remain fascinated by Hélène’s process and her beautiful work. I also want to express my deep gratitude to Mimi Mollica for bringing us together.
