Andrea Müller-Schirmer is a Dutch archivist for the Robby Müller Archive

Episode 514: Andrea Müller-Schirmer of the Robby Müller Archive joins me to speak about the recent book Robby Müller L.A. Polaroids, published by Stanley/Barker.

The book is filled with the legendary Dutch director of photography’s Polaroids of his various stays in Los Angeles while on different film sets. Noted for his work on many iconic films, from Paris, Texas, to To Live and Die in L.A., amongst many others, the polaroids reflect Müller’s sublime sense of light, dripping with amber hues and honey-drenched light.

Speaking with Andrea was incredibly illuminating. I learned more about Robby’s life and his work, which is vast yet singular in vision. We spoke about his work in the film industry, but concentrated more on his stays in Los Angeles, and what it takes to make a book from the photographer’s archive. The result is an engaging dialog with his archivist and wife. Please tune in!
