Yasufumi Nakamori is the Senior Curator of International Art and Photography at Tate Modern

Episode 298: Senior Curator of International Art and Photography Yasufumi Nakamori and I sat down to discuss the incredible career of Eikoh Hosoe, one of Japan’s leading photographic artists.

In this episode, Yasufumi and I spoke about Hosoe’s career, his involvement with legendary and notorious author Yukio Mishima, and Hosoe’s documentation of equally legendary Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno. We also spoke about Hosoe’s various books and bodies of work. The episode stems from my receiving of the Nakamori-edited MACK retrospective book, an essential guide to the career and life of the Japanese artist.

Please tune into this episode to hear about Hosoe and Nakamori’s trajectory through international contemporary photography. It was a deep episode! Do yourself a favor and pick up the MACK book on Hosoe, already destined to be an important tome on the artist’s work.
