Episode 460: Christian Patterson is an American artist and bookmaker. His work and books have been widely received and are part of international collections. His recent book, Gong Co, published by TBW Books, is an exemplary photobook.
This episode is one of six episodes dedicated to reading through Gong Co with Christian. Following up on our previous durational recordings of his other books, we decided to give Gong Co the same treatment. On a personal note, I believe Gong Co to be one of the finest titles produced in recent years. It is full of cryptic symbols, real-time discussions of American politics, and playful interludes that obliquely discuss American art and artist books. There is, put simply, a lot going on in the book that needs significant time to digest, parse, and discuss.
I have enjoyed the discussion of Gong Co and can admit freely that it, singularly, has changed my way of looking at photobooks and what is possible. Gong Co. is far ahead of the curve, and I hope that this episode helps people see what is possible in the world of photobook-making. Please Tune in!
