Federico Clavarino is an Italian artist.
Episode 195: Federico Clavarino is one of the leading voices working in photography of his generation.
This set of conversations was recorded over two separate sessions a few weeks apart. Federico and I had barely gotten through his background up through The Castle before we made the mutual decision to carry on the conversation over the span of two episodes. With Federico, what one comes away with is his deep knowledge of history, philosophy, and art. Speaking with him was something of a mental gymnastics routine for me his list of references and deep acquisition and recall of information is commendable.
In 2019, my family and I had the pleasure of meeting Federico and his partner Tami Izko (an incredible ceramicist) whom Federico has collaborated with. I had been familiar with Federico’s work for a few years and have been fortunate enough to review his books previously. I eagerly anticipate his books and his new book Ghost Stories is dues out imminently in Summer 2021.
In this episode, we speak about Federico’s early years and also a bit about his family background and its history as it is extremely important to some of Federico’s work. I will be posting the second episode at the same time, but please clear some time or prepare for a long conversation. I would also suggest to those interested in photobooks to keep up with Federico’s output. Once they are out of print, they are expensive to track down.
