Helena Goñi is a Basque artist

Episode 232: Helena Goñi and I finally got a chance to meet!

Having known of Helena’s work for a number of years, our paths never really crossed in person, nor in reviews, etc. Being a fan and taking note that we shared a number of musical influences and inspiration, it was great to finally get a moment to speak with her about her work and her books, which I cannot praise enough.

Helena is a tireless artist spending time in residencies across the world, always working, always progressing her vision. In this episode, we speak about her inspiration and her background growing up in Spain, and how music informs her life and work. We spoke about the musician Kali Malone, Anne Imhof,  and the photographer Alberto Garcia-Alix and a number of other influences that Helena has cited as being instrumental in forming her own vision.

The episode is relaxed and I hope to catch Helena more often going forward and to hopefully meet her in person over the coming years. I consider her and her work with high regard and expect great things from her in the future.
